Insurance Complaint against: Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company
Coverage Type: Life Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays
  • Claim Handling - Fraud
I filed a claim on April 16, 2013 with Colonial Penn Life Insurance and they claimed to have mailed out the claim check on April 17, 2013 and I have yet to receive the check. I called again to inform them that I still had not received the check as of May 8, 2013 and they issued a stop payment against the first check. A check was also issued on May 8, 2013 which was also never received and a stop payment was issued against that check on May 24th. A new check was just issued on May 28, 2013. It has almost been 2 months since I filed the ititail claim and that is a month too long. Something needs to be done to make this company improve its customer service. The company's advertisements need to be pulled because they are making promises to older folks which are not true.... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: Highmark
Coverage Type: Health Insurance

  • General - I feel abused by this company
The health insurance had been cancelled for non-payment and was not in sue. I cancelled the payment for April and thought it was cancelled permanently but discovered the money was taken out again on May 1st. I immediately contact the bank and they said they could not stop payment on the check. I call Highmark and they said it was not credited yet. I called a few days later and they said it takes 30 days to refund the money. It is the 29th and still have not received my money. They said it had been mailed. They said they automatically hold the money for 30 days so the bank does not take it bank. It is wrong and dishonest to hold someone's money for that long. It is like stealing. They have no right to hold money that they know does not belong to them for 30 days. I have incurred hundreds of dollars in overdrafts fees and they keep incurring because I still do not have my money. They took it out electronically--they could refund it electronically. It is nothing but a scam.... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: Progressive
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • Underwriting - Nonreneweal
After 21 years of being excellent customers (we could've filed claims for hail damage over 3 times, but didn't when everyone around us was)They have DROPPED us! Just got notice today in the mail! No phone call, no nothing, but a notice after 21 years! We had auto and homeowners with them. They apparently just realized after 8 yrs. of us living in our current home that we are 9 miles from the nearest fire station and 1000 ft. from a fire hydrant. How observant! I'd like to file a formal complaint. Thank you,... Read More

My oldest daughter has a policy from Gieco, now my youngest daughter lives with her.My youngest daughter has an accident under her belt and is under 25.She never had Gieco for insurance or drives my oldest daughters car.Just because she lives in the same household the insurance automatically put her on my oldest daughters policy without any consent and they are charging a ridiculous amonut of money for that.I contacted them and they would not budge.I asked them if 10 people lived in the house and had bad driving records that they would all be put on her policy and they said yes.How are they legally allowed to add anyone they want on to someone elses policy. Now after talking with the insurance commission they are sending out forms to file a complaint this should take a year or so to resolve.... Insurance Complaint against: USAA
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle

  • Claim Handling - Unjustified Accusations
My daughter is 8 years old and was riding her scooter (CALIFORNIA LAW STATES SHE IS STILL A PEDESTRIAN WHILE ON SCOOTER AND SIDEWALK) and was hit by my neighbor backing out of the driveway. Our neighbor had a blind-spot and did not see her due to the shrubs on her property. USAA is wanting to settle this claim at 60/40 due to the shrubs being a blind spot while backing out of the driveway. They also stated it was partially my fault because I was not supervising my daughter mind you she was next door not downtown and she was playing outside our neighborhood with her brother. Just makes me sick to think they are trying to pin fault on an 8 year old child. 21952. The driver of any motor vehicle, prior to driving over or upon any sidewalk, shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian approaching thereon. Police report states as well that the driver is at fault.... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: State Farm Insurance
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • Underwriting - Premium Too High
Last year my homeowners policy doubled, $2,355.00, this is outrageous. I am disabled, on a fixed income. I had to reduce my coverage so I would have some coverage. I am very upset because we have had State Farm for alot of years. This is completely wrong for any company to charge DOUBLE ANNUAL PREMIUMS. I WOULD LIKE TO STAY WITH STATE FARM WITH COVERAGE I HAD BEFORE, BUT IT IS VERY HARD TO PAY THIS NEW PRICE, AND THEN TO REDUCE MY COVERAGE. This is very hard to understand, WHY. Don't tell me because it was OK'd by the Governor.... Read More

John, Shop around for a new carrier. We understand you would like to stay with a carrier you have been with for years but it is our experience that State Farm is very difficult to deal with when it comes to claims so you may want to consider going elsewhere if you can save some money. Have a good broker look into this for you.

Insurance Complaint against: GHI
Coverage Type: Health Insurance

  • PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Service
  • PolicyHolder Service - Incompetent Employees
  • PolicyHolder Service - Delays/No Response
  • Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays
  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
GHI was my secondary health insurance carrier until January 1, 2013. I mailed them notice in early January that I dropped my primary health insurance coverage and (through my wife) they were now my primary health insurance carrier. In late January I mailed them the official documentation from my former primary health insurance company that I was no longer insured by them. Weeks later my wife the policy holder, over the phone confirmed with them they were my primary insurance carrier. I continued to receive notices from my medical practitioners that GHI refused to pay them insisting they were my secondary carrier. My wife verified again over the telephone their records reflected GHI was my primary health insurance carrier. With no telephone number to fax documents to (they claim there isn't one) and no email address to communicate with them, there is little I can do other than to follow their intentionally obfuscating communication practice. Still I get complaints from my providers and the bills are in the thousands. Over 2 weeks ago I mailed them again the official documentation from my former primary health insurance company indicating I was no longer insured by them. Today I received bill from one of my providers for $699.38, ha... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: Amica Mutual Insurance
Coverage Type: Travel Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Rude/Abusive Adjuster
  • Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
  • Claim Handling - Unjustified Accusations
  • General - I feel abused by this company
"I have been an Amica customer for 40 years homeowner and auto. It has been a point of pride that I have been with company for so long. So when we had 38" of snow this winter my huband noticed that my garage roof was sagging in the middle. So with the utmost confidence I called Amica. An adjuster was sent out he filed his report. All a sudden Amica is sending an engineer to check the garage. I was happy at first thinking that the engineer would know everything wrong with my garage. When I questioned the claim handler his exact words were "just because you have been a customer for 40 years and recommended us to other people you think we should just write you a check". I was so upset I started crying. Today the claim handler called and said No we aren't going to pay money on the claim. Why, well he said that it was natural settling or wasn't build right wasn't quite sure why it's saggy only that this wasn't covered. Then tells me that the engineer went to the townhall and found a picture of my house from 2001 and after blowing it up really large they can can see a sag in my roof. I had a new roof put on 5 years ago and no one mentioned a sag. You can see that the weight of the snow pushed the wall between the garage doors off the fo... Read More

A water damage claim for a pipe bursting was called "caused by a dripping pipe," the claim was denied and the mold coverage was ignored. My refund for cancelling rental insurance was held, "just in case you got future ins. with us..." My spouse had a minor fender bender and it was placed under my name as having the accident, a person not on my Deed was placed on my homeowner's insurance, an accident clearly caused by a driver running a stop sign was claimed 10% my fault and 90% theirs until I asked to speak to every supervisor they had, I was treated by two claim reps so rudely and one had every excuse not to transfer me to his supervisor. On another water damage claim, it took 3 weeks for the agent to come out and look at. I was told I was not contacted because they had the wrong claim number listed. I was also told that we would be put up for the weekend and that's it. When the plumber needed an extra day, I was told we were not getting it. I told him we were not going back to a home with no water. He said "I didn't know you didn't have water, yet the claim was for my main pipe corroding and we were in the house for those 3 weeks unable to wash clothes or dishes. I was accused of skipping out of the hotel we were put in wit... Read More

This is wrong on several accounts. One the reading on page 12 of your insurance policy if you have what is called a HO-3 policy covers just this. I would call an attorney or a Public Adjuster in your area. If you are in North or South Carolina you can send it to me and I will have a Public Adjuster contact you back e-mail me at info@clearchoicecarolina.com
