Insurance Complaint against: Citizens Property Insurance Co

we feel we have a legitimate claim with citizens, (a state insurance company) we were put in CITIZENS by our esteemed Governor Scott..(when our previous company would not insure any homeowners policies in the state of Florida) There was a tornado several miles from our house(a small villa HOA) we lost shingles on our roof, and had a wet ceiling in our laundry room and worse, had a hole in the ceiling in our bedroom, and water leaks in our den ceiling, water on the floor, a ruined carpet and furniture...We immediately call CITIZENS!! the adjuster came and said we were not covered..They paid us $800.00 for the furniture and rug, but said they held no responsibility for the rest of the damage.. They said we needed a new roof, and suggested we put up a "blue tarp" ...and they would not pay for anything...Needless to say, we immediately called in a licensed roofer, got all the necessary paper work and permits completed, and proceeded to put up the new roof.(We paid the $6000.00 for the roof.)..This was done in November of 2011.. In case of another storm, and being prepared for the 2012 hurricane ..At this point, our bedroom ceiling and wall was turning black, and we discovered MOLD,the inside hole was getting bigger and we were also... My car was involved in a hit and run accident Dec of 2011 and is still not resolved. A picture of the vehicle license plate was taken and a police report was filed. At least and maybe longer, 2 months after accident I'm told I must retrieve police report myself. I do this and then told Ins. of hit and run vehicle cannot locate driver. Now told by Knightbrook Ins. Co.(Ins. of hit and run vehicle) they never received police report when they have been sent at least 2 copies after stating they didn't receive it. Car was looked at for damages and came to $1800 something. What else can I possibly do? The vehicle that struck my car was a Med Ex truck. Please help!... Read More

  • General - I feel abused by this company
I have been with Metlife for both auto and home for about 18 years. NEVER had to put a claim in with them for either home or auto in the ENTIRE time we have been insured with them. Had major ice storm in 2011 which resulted in our electric wires being ripped of our home. In addition to losing electricity for weeks in end, a great portion of our vinyl siding was ripped off as well. We put in a claim and were reimbursed under 2K dollars. As a result of actually utilizing our homeowners insurance (mind you we've never put a claim in IE: never used our insurance for what it's supposed to be utilized for) we are now being penalized 25%. Our insurance was increased over $300 a year. This is outrageous! Also there is no one I can speak to to rectify this. No phone number provided to speak with a supervisor or someone who can remedy this for us. So we will be paying for the duration of our insurance an amount that will FAR exceed the claim we submitted. THIS IS SCANDALOUS.... Read More

I was charged $105.00 for not renewing - their price was almost double what I am now paying. Threats to send to collection, sue or whatever - they couldn't care less. I sent them a form letting them know I was going elsewhere. Since I did not send it by certified mail I cannot prove that they have it. Since when are we required to renew with the same company. Don't trust them.... Read More

MY AUTOMOBILE WAS VANDALIZED AND WAS DEEMED INOPERABLE. A whole was drilled in my oil pan causing the engine to seize when my girlfriend went to drive it. Claim was under investigation for 4 months, the entire time i was out of a vehicle and rental car coverage was not in my policy (big mistake. i provided the investigator with everything he asked for. They actually claimed that after 4 months that it was there determination through there investigations that i did this to my own vehicle. the investigator out right refused to obtain the servailance footage to the entrance of where my vehicle was located at the time. he assured me that he doesent feel it is neccessary to view the tapes at the time. mike hull was the investigator, triccia mittig was the adjuster and lin mcmillen is the supervisor. I am now in the process of taking them to small claims court. worst expierence i have ever had. thank you... Read More

Purchased a full coverage policy for my 2002 infinity qx4. The vehicle caught fire on the interstate, and was quoted damages in excess of 7000. The insurance company sent out the first adjuster, and promptly called me back to tell me they would cover about 900. I had to call, email, and threaten contacting the insurance commission of north carolina before anyone ever called me back. A supervisor called me back and promised to have a second adjuster come out. After about 3 weeks one finally made his way to the shop, and said he had to get a specialist (fire damage) guy to look at it. They both argued with the mechanics at the shop about the cause of the fire for weeks, and finally settled on a factory defect which caused a part of an o ring inside the engine to break apart and get into the moving parts which then caused breakage which in turn threw metal fragments through the engine making a hole for oil to leak out onto the exhaust, and onto a wiring harness. The heat from the exhaust caused the wiring harness to ignite. Liberty mutual said that the verbiage of the policy, obviously some very tiny print underneath where my policy says FULL COVERAGE, limited them to only fixing the damage from the fire, not the mechanical breakage.... 60 YEAR OLD SEIZURE PATIENT AFTER BRAIN SURGERY 33 YEARS AGO. ALTHOUGH IAM STILL SEEING MY NEUROLOGIST AND HAVING SEIZURES THAT REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION, CIGNA HAS DENIED MY CLAIM STATING AFTER A FCE MEETING STATING THAT I AM ABLE TO RETURN TO MY OWN OCCUPATION AS A CLAIMS EXAMINER. I HAVE SUBMITTED ALL THE EVIDENCE I CAN AND STILL IAM DENIED. I HAVE 15 PERSCRIPTIONS. SOME ARE FOR THE SEIZURE DISORDER AND THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE MEDICATION FOR THE DISORDER, STILL IAM DENIED. I was hit by a girl with USAA insurance. She admitted everythig. USAA psid for my car but is refusing to pay for my medical bills. I did not want to file a law suit, I just wanted my bils paid. On Feb.23, 2011 a representive of said company entered my home to sale me a $10,000.00 policy which no one had contacted her about this matter. At this time she told me and my husband that the policy we had with Foresters Insurance was no good. We had this policy for 6 months and had made monthly premiums. Then she preceded to fill out herself the application on said Insurance. At this my husband was confined to a hospital bed and was under a doctors care and ALA Care and was very sick. He has had knee surgery, shoulder surgery and also he was a diabetic and has had cancer, kidney failure and a stroke. After one month after I took said insurance out my husband was put on Hospice Also I have had open heart surgery and I am a diabetic and have had a mini stroke. This insurance representive filled out all the paper work at which time she marked no on all the questions concerning our health. We did not know that she was doing this. We both have not had a lot of education and we did not read what she had filled in and was not shown what she filled in but was told us to sign, we did sign to the best of ability.
