I recently lost my wedding rings. After accepting this fact, I reported it to NW. We had a homeowner policy for over 20 years now. When my husband gave me my rings we added them on the policy, a separate clause. They were insured for $3500.00. We paid premiums for $3500.00 worth of jewelry, for 19 years. We showed the appraisal paperwork at the time insurance was issued. Now I'm being told by NW that 1) the appraisal was 'woefully inadequate' and 2) that they (NW) would only pay replacement amount, not face value of what was insured. NW was to contact a "Jeweler" to figure out what it would take to replace my rings. The next person to call me was a person from a "replacement service". She explained her job was to evaluate my lost jewelry, but she could also help me with a replacement of it. I guess I left really confused. Why, for nearly 20 years, would I be paying insurance to cover the value of $3500.00 rings (based on the appraisal) if the insurance co. could turn things around and say it was valued at less than that? I'm sorry you lost your rings. I don't get it, your rings replacement cost should of increased over the years because to replace the rings you had should cost atleast double of what you paid. I think you need a lawyer or the will cheat you.

I purchased homeowners insurance with Allstate in 2009 and each and every year since then, it has gone up. My house payment has gone up with that in 2010, my homeowners insurance went up $179.71 and then I got a letter in mail saying that there was a processing error for 2010 through 2011, that my insurance has gone down and they made a mistake, so they sent me a small check for $27.00. Then this week, I got a renewal letter saying my insurance is going back up for 2012 to 2013. I can't even understand how Allstate can get away with doing this. I'm new to home buying, this is my first house and I got a big surprise the year after I purchased my home. Not only did my insurance go up, but my taxes on my house went up and I didn't even realize it, so I ended up owing all this money on my escrow. My house payment went way up... Read More

With the economy the way it is, I check around for quotes whenever my car insurance period begins again. I checked five companies and Geico charged the least. I was glad of that because I had been insured by Geico in the past. Imagine my surprise when I was assessed an extra amount once my policy was enforced which actually took my premium well past the other four quotes. I called and there was apparently no reason for the assessment but I was told that I could lower my bill if I took defensive driving lessons, even though I had no tickets or accidents on my record. I cancelled the policy and will not insure with Geico in the future. I find this practice absolutely unethical.... Read More

I called GEICO today as a well meaning customer bringing business to the company in which my family and I have been with for 25 years. We have had a one-million dollar umbrella policy with 7 vehicles and are a preferred customer under my father's name Michael **. As a family add on for my 2008 Civic I decided to go with GEICO and set up an auto policy. I spoke with a young lady by the name of Lacie on speaker-phone while my father and girlfriend happened to be in the room as well. My father decided to speak with Lacie also, helping me understand the different types of policy, due to that fact that he is more experienced with the company than I. After which, Lacie then decided it was appropriate to tell me I'm twenty-one years old and then proceeded to say I should have been a man from 18 years of age and called her on my own. No offense, but having my girlfriend in the room hearing someone from your sales department attempt to belittle me in such a short-sighted way, I think we both can agree that probably it isn't the best way to help represent your company through my eyes. I am a physical therapist. Because of my job, I am entitled a car insurance discount because I am a member of the APTA American Physical Therapy Association. According to GEICO, I am entitled to that policy discount; however, they are finding excuses not to give it to me by saying that I do not qualify. I am a physical therapist. In the process of requesting a loan on my life insurance policy I was informed I needed to fill out a change of ownership on the policy which they said would take 5 to 7 days. I did this and they lost the paperwork, so I went to an actual agent in an office. He submitted it for me and assured me that he would then request the loan as soon as the change was complete in 5 to 7 days. I contacted him approximately 14 days later and he was rude and hostile on the phone stating we were still waiting for the ownership change. That was almost 3 months ago. Every time I speak with someone in the offices or at their customer service number I am told a different story. The last straw was yesterday when I finally was told the check was processed and mailed out. I had requested it to be shipped overnight and they told me to call to see what the charge was as it ranged from $14-$30, and when it would arrive at my post office. The lady I spoke with last night got an attitude with me stating that it was a flat fee of $19.95 and I was wrong. I recently submitted a claim to Mercury Insurance under my Homeowner's policy. Policy is not based on exclusions, rather inclusions, and a very improbable and specific list at that. While my personal property may be covered during spontaneous combustion, airplane crash, or lightning strike, falling off a truck is not an acceptable condition, unless I get in a car accident in the process. Moreover, they would not assign my case to a different claims adjuster even after I made a complaint to the supervisor. This is a two-fold issue, unreasonable exclusion of coverage plus poor customer service. The manager, Gary, was very diplomatic and tried to explain the coverage exclusion, but refused to understand that I am also upset at the way this was handled by the claims adjuster and his supervisor. Before any of this they tried to tell me that I had no policy in force, even though I had a copy of it in my hand, paid in full for the year. Regardless of whether this claim is eventually paid, Mercury has lost a customer for Home and Auto insurance. I was hit from behind by their driver. It left me with no job and 30 grand of medical bills. His policy is 25 thousand dollars max and the car alone was damaged for 12 thousand dollars. They... Read More

I just don't know how long I have to wait to hear something with this dangerous situation I have existing on my property. No one seems to care at all, and I had no part in this accident which occurred on my lawn by the client of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group of Somerset, NJ. This winter might be my waterloo, and the tree might well come down in any storm with high winds or heavy rains (to say nothing of heavy snow). And it had the capability of going into the close street where there are many school buses and much regular traffic. I cannot see how any "responsible" insurance company or your office cannot be totally aware of this status, and how neither of you can see it is of the essence. But, obviously you both do, since this is over a year that I am fighting for my rights. Ms. Brenda **, Liberty Mutual's Claims Team Manager, has libeled me in her letter to me. She said I have committed insurance fraud by insinuating my "own insurance company has said that this tree is not damaged." I have never gone through my insurance company with this claim. I have been on a short term disability starting August 2011 thru January 2012 for a medical issue that required surgery in December 2011. This was not work related. I have never had an interruption in my disability payment due to providing all info they asked for in a timely matter. When asked for tell December 2011 they stopped paying due to not receiving my attending physician statement, but in fact it was faxed one month earlier on November 2, 2011. I have the proof it was faxed twice and received. I feel they intentionally stopped paying me as harassment two weeks before Christmas and made it so difficult and made my family suffer thru the holidays with no income for a month before it was reinstated with back pay. I was in contact with them everyday and got nothing more then the run around. Not one letter or a phone call from them to inform me that the info wasn't received; they just stopped sending my check. I called them one hour after every fax to confirm they had received and they said yes. This resulted to loss of income for the month of December 2011. I was abused by Hartford. My husband had a variable life insurance policy for nearly 20 years with automatic payment from our checking account. I received a letter one month stating a cash value low and that we needed to up the payment--they could not say to what amount. We were told to send a blank check, which we did not do. u possibly had an underfunded Univ. life policy? It is legal to fund them at a minimum to have the policy act as if it is only say 10 year term. I am a broker in Texas if you need any help.
