Insurance Complaint against: Mercury Insurance Group
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle
- Underwriting - Premium Too High
- Underwriting - Unfair Surcharge
- PolicyHolder Service - Delays/No Response
- Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
Last April 2010, my husband received a speeding ticket in Highlands County Florida. He paid the ticket and enrolled in a traffic class to avoid points on his license. He sent in his proof/paperwork. In August of 2010, he received a notice from Highlands County that his license had been suspended because he did not submit his paperwork related to the ticket. After several phone calls, it was determined that they had suspended his license because they needed an original of the class certificate, not a copy. He then had to drive down to Highlands County to present the original and pay fines to reinstate his license.
Our automobile insurance, Mercury Insurance of Florida through Most Insurance, LLC, was up for renewal this April. When they ran a routine background check, the suspension showed up on his record. Our monthly rate then increased from $316.00 to $668.00. The Most Agency had looked into this, however, Mercury will not consider the circumstances and waive their rules. Apparently, a license suspension with Mercury is weighted the same as a DUI. Please advise if there is anything we can do to strike this from his driving record or get Mercury to waive their policy. Of course, I have as much of a problem with Highlands Count...

Insurance Complaint against: Farmers Insurance Group
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance
- PolicyHolder Service - Abusive Service
- Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
- General - I feel abused by this company
Someone at Farmers Insurance got information from a resume of mine and has passed it out to every Farmers agent around the country. I'm getting dozens of offers to work for Farmers offices all over. I have never had any background in insurance or any interest. Neither have I ever contacted them. The offer letters are often the same, so it's clear that the company provides the letter and has some sort of system of providing job leads to the offices. Just as they train their agents to look for customers, they train them to find new agents. Other letters are pretty sleazy offering salaries of hundreds of thousands of dollars. I follow the directions on each to remove myself, but continue to receive more from the same and other offices. I've also sent letters to the main Farmers office in LA, but I have not received a response from them....

- General - I feel abused by this company
Liberty Mutual canceled my homeowners policy and did not notify me. They said they sent a letter they were canceling Florida policies, but I did not receive one. I had to find out from a co-worker that they were canceling Florida policies and when I checked, it was 3 days expired. I immediately called my escrow company who told me they had sent a letter also and put me on forced placed insurance. I can't even get a good rate on a policy now after 30 years of home owners insurance and never missing a payment due to their lack of caring. No one can come up with a tracking number or sent anything certified mail. My mortgage company Bank of America sent the letter Jan. 9th 2012, 20 days after the policy expired....

Insurance Complaint against: State Farm Insurance
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance
- Underwriting - Premium Too High
- Underwriting - Cancellation
State Farm is cancelling our homeowners insurance (6/22) after 20 years of no claims. Why? Because their third party property evaluator evaluated the wrong house, which is an abandoned house next door. Of course, this was after my wife objected to something about our son's car insurance. Bye, bye State Farm....

I recently lost my wedding rings. After accepting this fact, I reported it to NW. We had a homeowner policy for over 20 years now. When my husband gave me my rings we added them on the policy, a separate clause. They were insured for $3500.00. We paid premiums for $3500.00 worth of jewelry, for 19 years. We showed the appraisal paperwork at the time insurance was issued. Now I'm being told by NW that 1) the appraisal was 'woefully inadequate' and 2) that they (NW) would only pay replacement amount, not face value of what was insured. NW was to contact a "Jeweler" to figure out what it would take to replace my rings. The next person to call me was a person from a "replacement service".
She explained her job was to evaluate my lost jewelry, but she could also help me with a replacement of it. I guess I left really confused. Why, for nearly 20 years, would I be paying insurance to cover the value of $3500.00 rings (based on the appraisal) if the insurance co. could turn things around and say it was valued at less than that? I used that same appraisal to obtain the insurance in 1993. I'm also confused about this replacement services. How can the person who is determining the value of my lost property, be the same person trying to s...

Insurance Complaint against: Allstate
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance
- Underwriting - Premium Too High
- Claim Handling - Fraud
I purchased homeowners insurance with Allstate in 2009 and each and every year since then, it has gone up. My house payment has gone up with that in 2010, my homeowners insurance went up $179.71 and then I got a letter in mail saying that there was a processing error for 2010 through 2011, that my insurance has gone down and they made a mistake, so they sent me a small check for $27.00. Then this week, I got a renewal letter saying my insurance is going back up for 2012 to 2013. I can't even understand how Allstate can get away with doing this. I'm new to home buying, this is my first house and I got a big surprise the year after I purchased my home. Not only did my insurance go up, but my taxes on my house went up and I didn't even realize it, so I ended up owing all this money on my escrow. My house payment went way up...

Insurance Complaint against: GEICO
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle
- Underwriting - Unfair Surcharge
With the economy the way it is, I check around for quotes whenever my car insurance period begins again. I checked five companies and Geico charged the least. I was glad of that because I had been insured by Geico in the past. Imagine my surprise when I was assessed an extra amount once my policy was enforced which actually took my premium well past the other four quotes. I called and there was apparently no reason for the assessment but I was told that I could lower my bill if I took defensive driving lessons, even though I had no tickets or accidents on my record. I cancelled the policy and will not insure with Geico in the future. I find this practice absolutely unethical....

Insurance Complaint against: GEICO
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle
- Claim Handling - Rude/Abusive Adjuster
- Claim Handling - Unjustified Accusations
I called GEICO today as a well meaning customer bringing business to the company in which my family and I have been with for 25 years. We have had a one-million dollar umbrella policy with 7 vehicles and are a preferred customer under my father's name Michael **. As a family add on for my 2008 Civic I decided to go with GEICO and set up an auto policy. I spoke with a young lady by the name of Lacie on speaker-phone while my father and girlfriend happened to be in the room as well. My father decided to speak with Lacie also, helping me understand the different types of policy, due to that fact that he is more experienced with the company than I. After which, Lacie then decided it was appropriate to tell me I'm twenty-one years old and then proceeded to say I should have been a man from 18 years of age and called her on my own.
No offense, but having my girlfriend in the room hearing someone from your sales department attempt to belittle me in such a short-sighted way, I think we both can agree that probably it isn't the best way to help represent your company through my eyes. I immediately asked to speak to a supervisor who helped me out one-hundred and ten percent and I'm very grateful for that. I appreciate everything you do a...

I am a physical therapist. Because of my job, I am entitled a car insurance discount because I am a member of the APTA American Physical Therapy Association. According to GEICO, I am entitled to that policy discount; however, they are finding excuses not to give it to me by saying that I do not qualify. I am a physical therapist. If I don't qualify, then who does? Please help me....

Insurance Complaint against: Prudential Financial
Coverage Type: Life Insurance
- PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Service
- PolicyHolder Service - Incompetent Employees
- Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays
In the process of requesting a loan on my life insurance policy I was informed I needed to fill out a change of ownership on the policy which they said would take 5 to 7 days. I did this and they lost the paperwork, so I went to an actual agent in an office. He submitted it for me and assured me that he would then request the loan as soon as the change was complete in 5 to 7 days. I contacted him approximately 14 days later and he was rude and hostile on the phone stating we were still waiting for the ownership change.
That was almost 3 months ago. Every time I speak with someone in the offices or at their customer service number I am told a different story. The last straw was yesterday when I finally was told the check was processed and mailed out. I had requested it to be shipped overnight and they told me to call to see what the charge was as it ranged from $14-$30, and when it would arrive at my post office.
The lady I spoke with last night got an attitude with me stating that it was a flat fee of $19.95 and I was wrong. I informed her that so far everything I have been told has been contradicted when I call back. She told me she didn't know where I got my information from but it was wrong. I told her I got it from their...

That's so unfair what's happening to your husband! It's horrible how these insurance companies can get away with increasing rates more than double.
