  • PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Reimbursement

  • General - I feel abused by this company
We have all our insurance thru AARP: medicare supplement., auto and homeowners. On July 27, we had an incident where our water heater exploded. I called as soon as I could to report the incident. I was asked first if I had contacted Service Masters, a drying company. Having never making a home owner claim of any kind, I had no idea who or what this company was or what they did. Alright, I was told the water heater was not covered but the water damage was. We called a plumber, had the water heater replaced out of our own pockets, only to find out the source of water throughout the house was not from the water heater but a hole in the foundation plumbing. I called the insurance company back with this information. They said I would be charged with two different deductibles. They sent an adjuster out to assess the damages and he determined that the water leak was responsible for all the flooring and wall damage. So since I had already paid for the new water heater to make a single claim on the leak, which I did. The insurance company sent Service Master to dry out water from walls, etc. They ran those blowers and dehumidifiers day and night, no way to hear nor sleep here with so much noise. No one told us what to do next. No one ad... Read More

My home caught fire while we were on vacation in Sept 2010. When i got the call from my neighbor i was upset but i mistakenly thought the worst was over. We did everything we were supposed to - contacted agent, called Allstate and cut my vacation short and returned home immediately. We put our family in a hotel - it took three weeks before we could arrange for a rental in town and the adjuster agreed to the lease terms. We were out of pocket over $7,000 in hotel bills (including room service) and then moved into a rental with whatever kids clothes we had from the trip, no furniture - NOTHING. The first check we got was $10,000 living expense 8 weeks after the fire which covered the hotel bill we paid weeks ago. We got 3 separate construction quotes. The lowest one was $649,000.00. The first offer from the adjuster was $290,000. That is when we realized that we could not handle this on my own and was referred to a lawyer. All of a sudden we started getting reimbursed and were able to use our own contractors. Why wouldn't they do what was right without the legal pressure? Do not think for a minute that you will get what you paid for on your own... Read More

I had a fire back in 2008...our stories are the same. If we didn't retain an attorney, we would be out 100,000's of dollars and half repaired home.

Insurance Complaint against: Country Financial
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
I experienced a major fire loss at my home on 12/5/2011. As of 3/21/2012, Country Financial still has not settled my claim. Though Country Financial and I are in dispute concerning the estimate of work for the dwelling (structure), due to that, Country Financial has refused to settle the claim for personal property (contents). I was informed by industry experts that dwelling and personal property are separate, one has nothing to do with the other and therefore my personal property claim should have been settled months ago. Additionally, Country Financial has yet to pay the vendors who boarded up my property, cleaned and restored my clothes and furniture, and inventoried and store my salvageable items, and inventoried my non-salvageable items. Finally, Country Financial has stopped paying the gas and electric bills at the property even though they instructed me to keep on the utility services and they would be responsible for paying the bills.... My home was broken into in March and many valuable things were stolen. The thieves also destroyed the house as they ransacked it. I felt violated. What was worse, the adjuster for the insurance agency made me run through hoops just to prove what was stolen. Asked for receipts for every piece of jewelry (like i kept them over the years) and basically made me feel like it was my job to prove i was actually robbed of valuables. Of course - i put together a detailed list after much research and hard work, and after much delay was offered a settlement offer of about a third. I feel like i was robbed TWICE.... Read More

Nationwide does not explain the difference between "agreed value" insurance and "replacement value" insurance for jewelry on their homeowners policy. The former means what you get what your appraisal value was; the latter deceptively means you get a "wholesale or discounted value." Furthermore, they use quotes from online only (not nearby bricks and mortar companies) for their quotes, then essentially tell their policyholders to "take it or leave it." In my case, I know better. I am sending this for the benefit of other consumers.... Read More

On January 8, 2010, we had a garage fire that spread to the roof, living room, dining room and it destroyed all of the contents in the garage. The adjuster came out that weekend to survey the damage. Since that weekend, there has been no re-construction to the house. PSIC has paid some of the personnel loss items, paid other small items, but still has not moved on the re-build of the house. It has now been 8 months and our living expense allowance is about to run out. Instead of providing what they should be doing, they would rather pay for us to stay in a rental home instead of repairing my home. They do not communicate with my public adjuster, return phone calls or e-mails. If they do not act soon, we will be on the street but still paying a mortgage on a house that has been red tagged and unlivable. If my living expense runs out, I can not afford to pay a mortgage on a burnt house and rent on another. For PSIC not to perform on my claim is unacceptable. I made my insurance payments every year and now they won't do what I paid for.... Read More

I had water damage from frozen pipes back in Jan 16, 2000. My whole house was ruined. Walls, cabinets in kitchen and bathrooms, floors in entire house except for one small bedroom, front door rusted from water, heating cover panels, entire wall paper in bathrooms, and large kitchen along with walls and the insulation in first floor was ruined in its entirty. We also had to rent a Dumpster to take all the ruined carpenting, cabinets, wall paper and insulation out. The adjuster alloted me $4431.71 to hire someone to take down and replace wallpaper, paint, install carpenting, install kitchen and bathroom cabinets, take down and install insullation, replaced damaged walls, etc. The cabinets alone cost $3,440 without installation and settling for less cabinets than what I originally had. Leaving me with very little to hire the contractor, and purchase the other necessary items. I gave the contractor his name and number to call and the contractor finally was able to get through to him and faxed him an estimate, but the adjustesr never got back to him. I have left him numerous messages on his machine and he has failed to call us back. At one point he told me I should take the money given to me for personal damage and buy and fix w... Read More

Water damage from overflowed commode. Water overflowed from master bathroom commode flooding both house bathrooms adjacent to each other, master bedroom and adjacent hall. I reported to State Farm as soon as I returned home approximately three hours as commode was last used. State Farm sent a crew Serve-Pro to clean up water. After they left, I discovered there was $500 missing from my residents. The agent stated the missing money would be of a different claim, theft, which was not covered under my flooding insurance and had a separate deductible of another $1000. Upon getting statements, the adjuster cut cost and refused to replace some of the damaged carpet, avoided my calls, stated my contractor had not called. He became rude and abrasive and hung up on me several times in trying to get the insurance to cover damages. If State Farm is like a good neighbor, I sure would hate to have a bad neighbor. I had enough problems with the flooding and even more with trying to get it fixed by State Farm. They like to get the payment, but they don't like to fix your property back as it was. Stay away from this one.... Read More
