I was billed for a medicine I did not order. It was an employer paid plan that I changed into medicare part D. I made many calls to see if and how the plan was different and it I need to have new prescriptions. There was a total lack service and people told me information and told me they weren't sure. I had to keep asking for supervisors. They all acted like I was the first person to ask. In one conversation they told me the drugs that were to be sent and what dates. One RX I said that I didn't think that it was the correct dosage and the person told me that drug would be pending. They sent the drug. When I called several different people told me that I said I would call back and that pending meant it was being sent on that date. Pending to me means that they would hold the drug or wouldn't sent it until notified. The first person I talked to played the tape for me. It was very clear in the tape that they told me the date it was scheduled and I questioned it and then they said pending. Everyone after that said that I had questioned it and then they told me they would send it if they didn't hear from me. Everyone including supervisors backed that up and then they were very surprised that I had heard it. They all told ... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: Allstate
Coverage Type: Flood Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays
My home was devistated by Hurricane Sandy - 4 feet of water sat for 12 hours in the first floor of my home destroying everything. I reported the claim to ALLSTATE the following day to get the process started. Multiple calls and days later I was told a structural adjuster was being assigned from the multitudes being sent up from other states to work on the overwhelming number of NY claims. After calling the "help" line every day I hit on someone who actually helped connect me with our adjuster. He explained due to the volume he would not be able to make it to our area until Nov 3rd but he listed to my anguish and assured me he would put in a $5-$7K advance to get the work started cleaning out the wet, stinking mess. He showed up on November 3rd and spent about 1 hour doing his work. He agreed he could see the damage - which was painfully evident and did his job of inspecting, photographing, taking measurements, etc. We explained we could not being cleanup until we received the funds. Week #1 passed - nothing. no advance, no phone calls. I placed multiple calls to he 1-888-202-3716 "Help-line" to be told by totally uninterested parties that I had to deal with my adjuster. He never returned my calls. Week #2 - same s... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: Allianz Global Assistance
Coverage Type: Travel Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays
  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
  • Claim Handling - Unjustified Accusations
On Jan. 30,2012, I booked air tickets through Cheap Tickets and bought travel ins. through their insurance agency, Allianz. The flight was to Coppenhagen on Aug 26, 2012, to connect to a cruise. On Feb. 26th I went to University of Az. hospital in Tucson and was admitted with a very rare lung disease, Criptigenic Organizing Pnemonia (COP). None of the four pulmonoligists had ever seen a case. In July my pulmonolgist suggested I cancel my overseas trip as I was still using oxygen occassionally. I called Allianz and they sent a form for my pulmonoligist to complete and sign which he did. After a month of not hearing anything ( I had already received my check for the cruise portion of the trip from CSA Travel insurance.) I called Allianz and they said they would like more information. I asked if I should send them the first 10 pages of my hospital stay stating on Feb. 26, 2012, and they said that would be helpful to settle the claim. They also wanted me to send in a form from my primary care physician stating that I had no previous history of any lung disease which he sent. They then sent me a letter rejecting my claim saying their was a clause in my insurance that said if I had any symptoms prior to buying the insurance the... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: UnitedHealth Group
Coverage Type: Health Insurance

  • Underwriting - Premium Too High
  • PolicyHolder Service - Unfair Negotiation
Representative visited my home and gave me a 2013 rate. I also got the 2013 rates off line and from other agents. At this date November 23, 2013 the agents do not have a book with the increased rate. The agents and members do not have a choice, since December is last date you can sign up. I payed the yearly payment in full. Then 2 weeks later, I received a payment coupon for $210 for the month of December 2013. I was confused since I had payed in full and thought the coupon was for first payment in Jan 2014. I called the company and was told there was a percentage rate increase after I had signed a contract at a rate agreed upon. I feel they should accept my payment in full since they did not reveal their rates by the deadlne date. The company is allowing agents to rewrite policies upgrading policies from one plan to other and then charging rates at age of 65 when they were first allowed to come into plan. How is that fair that their agents are allowed to conduct business in this illegal manner? My agent is honorable and is losing customers because of the lack of current rates. Elderly customers are being held by the ying yang!!!! I do not feel that the agent was at fault!!! FIX IT!!... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: GEICO
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle

  • Underwriting - Premium Too High
I enrolled in Geico's auto insurance program last December and received a rate of $499.00 for a six month premium. My car is a 2011 Subaru Outback lease and I have a clean driving record with no claims and ongoing defensive driver status. The next six-month premium was $523 and this most recent one was $548. When I questioned what has been a 10& rise in premiums in under a year, I was told that Geico had requested and been granted a rate increase from New York State and I had received all discounts possible. The representative with whom I spoke said that a clean driving record with no claims and regularly updated defensive driving courses made no difference; the rate hike would stand. I am in the process of taking my business elsewhere and, as a shareholder in Berkshire Hathaway, which owns a controlling share of Geico, intend to inform shareholder services about Geico's bait and switch practices and refusal to stabilize its premiums for any longer than six months.... Insurance Complaint against: Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association
Coverage Type: Health Insurance

  • Underwriting - Unfair Surcharge
  • General - I feel abused by this company
called for dental insurance & was quoted a price of 35.00/month- but i only could pay monthly if i allowed them to take directly from my checking account- i said no- the rep said i could pay quarterly to which i agreed- when i asked how much it was 113.00 per quarter- i questioned this as this is 64.00 per year more- i was told it was a processing fee- if paying 3 months in advance entitles the company to a processing fee- i am quite flabbergasted- usually paying in advance offers a discount not a penalty- i feel ripped off- my choice is the have the company dip into my checking account every month ( which i don't do for anyone) or to pay a penalty of $8.00 per quarter - the rep kept saying it was a processing fee ( what kind of processing fee for paying in advance???) i feel this is a rip off.... Insurance Complaint against: Standard Insurance Company
Coverage Type: Life Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
My 88 year old Mother had been paying premiums since 1979, 33 years. In 2012 she became ill and moved from her home of 42 years into an assisted living apartment. Due to her illness and change of address she missed one premium payment of $10. I am her son and the personal representative of her will. I contacted the insurance company to advise of her death on September 22, 2012. They advised me as a result of the one missed payment no payments will be made on the $1000 policy. For 33 years she had been faithful with her payments until she became ill. Her beneficiary is her granddaughter who now will get nothing from the policy.... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: Allstate
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • PolicyHolder Service - Abusive Service
  • PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Reimbursement
  • Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
  • Marketing & Sales - Misleading Advertising
  • Marketing & Sales - Misrepresentation
  • General - I feel abused by this company
After over 30 years combined coverage for auto and home owners and other insurance, I was put into an unfair situation and rendered an unfair settlement by an insurance company that advertises it places it customers “in good hands”. My home sustained hale damage in a storm. It was in a condo development where about 14 other homes faced similar damage. All l4 other owner received settlements from their insurance companies that lead to a roof replacement. The roof replacement was because the shingles required for repair the roof were no longer manufactured. Apparently all owners had a policy that required matching shingles. I was told by Allstate that my policy also required matching shingles but since my roof had a few unmatched shingles installed form previous damage, they did not need to replace my roof. Instead they sent me a check for less than $100 claiming that the cost of repair would be less than $600 to repair. Since the shingles could not be matched then technically the roof could not be repaired properly. The Condo Association has by-laws that prohibit me from having a roof where the shingles don’t match. When talking with the claim adjuster I was informed because of this technicality (having a few unmatched shi... Read More
