Insurance Complaint against: USAA
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle

  • Underwriting - Cancellation
  • PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Service
  • PolicyHolder Service - Incompetent Employees
  • PolicyHolder Service - Delays/No Response
  • Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer
  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
I filed a claim on Feb 1, 2015. Was told I was covered and I placed car in USAA approved shop on Feb 4, 2015. On Feb 13, 2015 the date in which car was to be completed I get contacted by rental car company and told that even though my car is not yet finished USAA is not paying for anymore rental. I find out that USAA has canceled my claim and policy and voided the amount paid for the repairs to the shop. The explanation I was given was that my payment of premium check had been returned so they cancelled everything and I would have to pay for my car out of my pocket. They refused to let me reinstate policy and the problem is that they canceled my policy and voided the payment check on Feb 6, 2015, 2 days after making the payment, but I was not notified about this until 7 days later on Feb 13, because of which by the time I was notified it was too late to cancel repairs or make any type of arrangements. Now my car is stuck at the body shop unable to be picked up by me because I dont have the money to pay. The money that USAA was suppose to pay.... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: State Farm Insurance
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • General - I feel abused by this company
I filed a claim for tornado damage on 02/10/13 and on the night of 01/21/2014 my home burned to the ground I was displaced. I've had my home rebuilt and moved back into it on 12/06/14 it took so long to rebuild because I had a death in my family one month after I lost my home my oldest son died and it took me a while to get back to finding a contractor. A week or so after moving back home I got a letter from State Farm telling me that they were dropping me because I flied the two claims. Was I not suppose to use the insurance to make repairs caused my nature and a fire that would have killed me and my dog had I not heard the smoke detectors go off around 10:30pm that night. I got out with my life and my dog in 17 degree weather with no shoes or coat only my sleeping cloths. My neighbor gave me the coat and house shoes she had on. I was told by another State Farm agent that got my contact information off line when I was looking for another insurance company to insure my home to contact my local agent. He could possibly help me keep my coverage. I contacted him he said he would check into it and get back to me, that's been two weeks ago so I just called his office again today and was told he is in a meeting and they would tell ... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: State Farm Insurance
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Reimbursement
Family of 6- We spent Feb 14-April 24 in 1 bedroom hotels or with family. No pod was suggested- all boxes were stored in my garage where it was ozonated. It took us over a year to unpack- My garage now stinks even after 2 years. Appliance inspections-recommendation was for replace, this was not done for any appliances. I have maintained them in a storage facility, which now smells. Insurance scheduled an inspector (their choice)-McKee. The first inspector that was sent in provided guidance saying their was residue and odors and they should repair or replace.Ins.paid to clean only-this was not sufficient(clothing & appliances); need of more cleaning as they still smelled of chemicals and irritating odors we relate to smoke. Insurance sent in 2nd inspector which did wipe tests which would have been useful if performed during the first week or so to determine the path and extent of smoke exposure- why was this not performed initially? No porous surfaces were evaluated and no clothing was taken for analysis- only wipe tests. I was not provided any lab results only a report (which quoted detection limits and methodologies incorrectly). Moved back into our home and still had irritations (nosebleeds, ear/eye/nose/throat problems... Read More

Insurance Complaint against: MetLife
Coverage Type: Life Insurance

  • PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Service
  • PolicyHolder Service - Delays/No Response
  • Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays
  • Claim Handling - Fraud
  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
My step-mom changed my Father's beneficiary when he was in a home for Alzheimer's. The person who reviewed the claim never should have okay'd payment to her the follow mistakes were made: signature doesn't match, first name doesn't match, she listed herself as the employee, etc. MetLife confirms this! Early in the process, they said they couldn't make a decision as a box wasn't checked by the evaluating doctor (this report was done the day he entered the home.) The report did say that he couldn't handle his cash resources, he was incontinent, needed total assistance etc. Around a year later, I was finally able to get the Dr. to check the box that they said was so important to the case. Yet, they claim that they couldn't fully substantiate that fraud was done? Oh the California Department is of no use either. My case is so easy to figure out, i can only guess how people are treated who have more complicated cases. Insurance companies are supposed to fairly evaluate claims, but sadly, dishonest companies like MetLife push the disputes into court knowing that only 2-4% of people will take it that far.... "Fair" reimbursements? If I were you, I'd look into whose making the cash -- it's not the gov. Try pharmaceutical companies. If your boss is playing fairly, and 22 million people are getting help through Obamacare, it would seem that insurance companies, who never should have been at the Obamacare table, are scamming us all. Good luck, and I hope you keep your job. You need to fight the right fight: aspirin in a hospital should not cost $125 p/pill. There are healthcare models in many countries that work. We need to clone those.

Insurance Complaint against: Safeco
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle

  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
I was parked and backed into by an individual insured by Safeco on January 26, 2015. The guy claimed he didn't see my car in the parking space. The police completed an incident report which clearly states he was at fault. I put the claim into Safeco, and at first they claimed they were unable to get in touch with the guy and would not process the claim until the did so. The adjuster's name is Stacey Crooks. These folks flat out refuse to get my 2013 Cadillac ATS repaired, so I will have to personally sue their insured for the repairs. There is no rhyme or reason why Safeco, Stacey Crooks, should deny this claim. You cannot back into a parked car. The excuse that you cannot contact your insured is ridiculous. How long can that excuse be valid? I eventually went through my own insurance company who was absolutely fabulous. I already have the paperwork to file a small claims suit against the insured so that I can at least get my deductible back. The insured should definitely find a company that stands behind him because as of now, I'm going after bank accounts, homes, etc. to put liens against the insured. Safeco has no business conducting business in the State of Florida if they won't honor a cut and dried claim. Th... Read More

No company will pay a third party claim without speaking to their insured first, regardless of a police report. If he is playing hard to get, they cannot do anything. There is no time limit for them to pursue the claim. You did the correct thing by going through your insurance and then they will subrogate against his insurance.

  • Underwriting - Cancellation
After five years of coverage without ay claims they are cancelling for trivial reasons. A plumbing fixture was temporarily in the backyard and a piece of drip edge was loose on the roof These defects have been corrected. In addition there are two agricultural buildings in poor condition which I do not expect coverage on. One is a disused earth-floor chicken coop on the rear of the lot, which they object to missing shingles. I feel that this is a way to indirectly jack up rates by driving me to another insurer.... October 2014- we changed insurance providers due to the high cost of our previous provider. We signed and paid our policy premium for two months and received a letter in November that as of January 1st the premiums will be raised by 180$s more, each one. When we called our agent we were told that due to open enrollment starting January 1st, 2015 the premiums were raised for the year instead of it being a "rolling calendar year". We were told that by individualizing our plans we may be eligible for subsidies and they could save us some money on the same plan. We decided to allow them to do this on December 17th in order to not lapse in insurance by the 1st of January. On December 26th, a Friday, we received a letter dated December 17th, 2 weeks prior to receiving the letter that if a premium payment is not received by January 1st, 2015 that the policies would be canceled. On December 29th, Monday, the premium payments were mailed to Assurant Health. The first week of January we received our medical cards. When we tried to use the cards the following week we were told that they were invalid. On the 14th of January I called our agent who looked into the issue and called me back the same day and said that underwriting stated that the ... Read More

I have a rental policy with State farm homeowners insurance with a 1000. deductible. I have paid my premiums for years. I have had one renter in my house for 4 years. When I reported my claim and noticed the amount of damage I called to make a report. The Claim adjuster came out took pictures went through the house saw the damage. Then to try and get out of paying the claim. They separated the claims stating that according to their photos the damage happened over time. So they separated the claim out to 6 different claims. Saying that I had to pay my 1000. deductible for each claim. This was not right. I told them I live out of state. This is not right! I have been making phone calls to the claims department and my insurance company with not response back! This has been terrible and frustrating.... Read More
