  • Claim Handling - Delays upon Delays

My home was devistated by Hurricane Sandy - 4 feet of water sat for 12 hours in the first floor of my home destroying everything. I reported the claim to ALLSTATE the following day to get the process started. Multiple calls and days later I was told a structural adjuster was being assigned from the multitudes being sent up from other states to work on the overwhelming number of NY claims. After calling the "help" line every day I hit on someone who actually helped connect me with our adjuster. He explained due to the volume he would not be able to make it to our area until Nov 3rd but he listed to my anguish and assured me he would put in a $5-$7K advance to get the work started cleaning out the wet, stinking mess. He showed up on November 3rd and spent about 1 hour doing his work. He agreed he could see the damage - which was painfully evident and did his job of inspecting, photographing, taking measurements, etc. We explained we could not being cleanup until we received the funds.

Week #1 passed - nothing. no advance, no phone calls. I placed multiple calls to he 1-888-202-3716 "Help-line" to be told by totally uninterested parties that I had to deal with my adjuster. He never returned my calls.
Week #2 - same story. Stopped by mobile Help center and was told no advance was ever requested. They did one.
Week #3 and into week #4 - same story. Finally got call back from adjuster to tell me they are overwhelmed but still didn't file report. I have NO idea what is going on. They are "overwhelmed".
I got my advance - not $5 - $7 but $2K -Company to clean out space cost $6 - Have had to use funds from my car claims with GEICO to have space cleaned out -which now includes mold.
Still have NO word from adjuster, help line tells me still have to deal with adjuster -they dont have information. Have NO idea what they instend to cover to fix structural damage to my home.
WHAT CAN I DO??
thank you,
Elizabeth Cottrell
