I received a quote on a homeowners policy 2 years ago. The quote was very high so I declined and decided to stay with my current insurance company. About 6 months later I started receiving collection notices about a homeowners policy for a home that I no longer lived in. I called the insurance agent and was reassured that it was a glitch and everything was taken care of. I kept receiving harassing letters in the mail and I made contact with the insurance agent a handful of times and he would say everything was fine and there was nothing to worry about. About 18 months after I got the quote on the homeowners policy that I declined, I received a letter from my new mortgage company that said my payment went up over a hundred dollars a month. I was put on forced placement because of the lapse in coverage from my old house. I never had a lapse in coverage, I was never late on a payment, and because I let them run a quote I now have a higher house payment. It's absurd, feels like it should be against the law. I need help. I've done everything I can think of and have received absolutely no help from the person that started the problem. Somebody please help me!
