C.'s complaint:
September 28, 2013

Insurance Company: Fidelity
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • Underwriting - Cancellation

Our homeowner's insurance is being cancelled because my insurance company's inspector did not visually see a fire hydrant while performing a cursory inspection of my property two months ago. Underwriters from Fidelity National Insurance Company, located in Jacksonville, Florida, are insisting upon a letter from our local fire department confirming there is a fire hydrant within 1000ft of my home. In the 27 years I have owned a home, fire hydrant location has never been questioned. I live in a suburban area, and the fire hydrant IS within 1000 feet, located on a street perpendicular to mine, and therefore not visible from my yard. I have even provided a map with the exact location, so why is this even an issue? I have never had a fire-related issue, and the fire department is one half mile away. I am outraged that a customer with a flawless record can be treated so poorly.
