MARVIS's complaint:
September 25, 2013

Insurance Company: The Travelers Companies
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Unsatisfactory Settlement/Offer

My water heater exploded April 26, 2013. I had extensive damage and had to have dry fast services done within my home. The adjuster sent me my claim estimate within a few days and told me I would be receiving three checks, one for replacement cost, one for PPR-content and a final check for less depreciation. The replacement check had my name and the mortgage company name. The replacement funds were placed in an insurance loss account with the mortgage company; and money was drawn through the mortgage for the Contractor. The contractor sent in a bid to the mortgage company. They sent him half of what his bid was and told him he could get started and any extra funds could be drawn with a written request from him along with my signature. I sent my satisfaction form to the mortgage company and they dispersed his final portion of his bid amount. While the contractor is renovating my home, I start to get calls from the water mitgation services company. "Has Travelers sent our check to you"? My answer was no. This went on for almost 2 months. They had been told by Travelers company that the check was in the mail. I was sent the depreciation check and although I was told that the mortgage company name would not be on it. It was and I sent it to them. Not one time did the claims adjuster tell me that I need to call the mortgage company and get a check for the mitgation services. He did tell me, that "we have paid out what we were suppose to, so you need to call the Dry fast company and tell them, this is all you have and give the depreciation money to them
