Insurance Company: GEICO
Coverage Type: Homeowners Insurance
- Underwriting - Premium Too High
- Underwriting - Unfair Surcharge
- PolicyHolder Service - Inadequate Reimbursement
- General - I feel abused by this company
Geico uses Wellington Risk for Companion Property & Casualty for underwriting in the state of Texas. I purchased my policy last year and they were great, when my escrow account paid them this year I noticed the premium was higher then got a letter from my mortgage company telling me my policy had been changed... apparently they decided the cost to rebuild my home was no longer as much as I had it insured for so my coverage amount dropped, yet my rate went UP >?!!!<
When I asked about this they told me that was standard and even though I haven't had a claim, had only had the house a year, and paid on time they felt I was over insured and prices had changed. I immediately found new coverage (better coverage at 3/4 of my original premium through AAA) and cancelled my policy only 10 days into the policy term. When I got my refund check, they not only charged me a FULL month of premium but a cancellation fee (they called it an administration fee) that was a full 25% of my premium.
Do your homework on these guys, Geico should be ashamed cuz they lost not only a long term auto policy holder, but the rest of my family too.
