My home was burglarized in August of 2011. Several thousand dollars worth of fishing tackle and tools were taken. I am an AVID fisherman and tackle collector and own over 200 fishing rods and thousands of lures and accessories. At one time I offered, through my local agent, to purchase a "Rider" on my fishing tackle, since I own more than most sporting goods dealers. My agent and State Farm told me that it would not be necessary, all of my tackle and equiptment would be fully covered in the event of fire or theft. After the theft, I was treated like a criminal. I was harrassed and lied to, and it took over 3 months to settle the claim. State Farm depreciated my tackle far beyond what they should have and denied paying for $10 in shipping costs. Here is a run down of recent events.
August 27, 2011….. Home burglary
August 27, 2011…... Called police/PA State Police Responded
a. Police took a report
b. Police did little investigation
c. Police took no fingerprints or evidence
August 29, 2011…. Reported incedint to State Farm Insurance
a. Co-operated with State Farm in every way.
b. State Farm tried to say that I had a “Fishing Tackle Business” and was therefore not covered.
c. I have NEVER sold fishing tackle from my home, or owned a fishing tackle retail business
d. State Farm depreciated my fishing tackle more than I felt was reasonable.
e. State Farm refused to pay me $10 in shipping cost for one group of lost items.
f. Took over three months for State Farm to settle this claim with me.
September 2012… Upon packing my belongings in preparation for moving to Florida, I discovered additional items that were missing from the original burglary.
a. I filed an addendum with my State Farm agent, who in turn, forwarded the addendum to the adjuster office.
b. Filed an additional report with the investigating State Police officer.
c. An adjuster was assigned my case. I spoke with this lady only one time.
d. The adjuster was replaced with another adjuster.
e. I spoke with this adjuster initially.
f. This adjuster requested a copy of my 2011 Income Tax Return.
g. I did not see the relevance of this request, but I sent the adjuster a copy of my 2011 Tax Return non-the-less, to the address specified by the adjuster, mark to his attention.
h. The 2011 Tax Return was returned to me with no explanation.
i. To date, I have tried many times, to contact this adjuster, through e-mail, letters and telephone. The adjuster will not respond to any of my contacts and constantly ignores me and fails to provide me with adequate service.
I already went through all of this BS, and jumped through hoops for over 3 months. The claim was already found to be payable... WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN????
I CERTAINLY AM NOT IN GOOD HANDS AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED PROPER SERVICE... NO "DOUBLE TAKE" HERE.
