Julie's complaint:
December 31, 2012

Insurance Company: GEICO
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle

  • Underwriting - Refusal to Insure

My parked car was hit by my boyfriends neighbor. There was considerable damage to the rear drivers side. I was stupid and didn't call the cops. They said they had insurance, we exchanged information and I filed a claim. A few days later, GEICO calls me to let me know that the people that hit me were NOT insured and that I would have to pay the $500 deductible to get my car fixed. IT WAS PARKED AND HIT BY SOMEONE ELSE. That's not right. What the hell am I paying this company for if they won't even cover me when some uninsured driver hits me? They said they could TRY to get my deductible back from them when I went to get the car fixed. I refused to do it. I was not about to pay $500 to repair a car I was wanting to sell anyway. I sold the car and got a lot less than I should have because of the body damage. ALSO, as a side note, I called the cops to let them know about the situation and they said they also couldn't do anything about it because we had already exchanged information-it was now a civil dispute. Moral of the story: auto insurance is bullshit and you can get away with not having it.
