charlotte's complaint:
December 22, 2012

Insurance Company: Allianz Global Assistance
Coverage Type: Travel Insurance

  • Claim Handling - Rude/Abusive Adjuster
  • Claim Handling - Denial of Claim
  • General - I feel abused by this company

I purchased travel insurance. on Oct. 5. 2012, for a trip to Tel Aviv, Israel planned for 12/1/12. There were TERRORIST attacks in many cities in Israel in November. The policy has a section called "Trip Cancellation", on page 7. Following that is a heading called "Terrorism". These words explain the word "Terrorism" "A terrorist event happens at your foreign destination within 30 days of the day you're scheduled to arrive." I included an article with my claim. It is titled "Bus exploded in central Tel Avev, first terror attack in the city since 2006." I was told,on the telephone with Christine, that my claim was denied because "there are always events in Israel". This was not an event--it was terrorism. I hope to plan another trip to Israel because my daughter, son-in-law, and 5 grandchildren live there. In order for me to use the credit for that cancelled ticket, Delta requires a payment of $250 PLUS any changes of fares. That would cost an additional minimum amount of $600 (tkt has already cost me $1085)
I am asking to be treated fairly and for Allianz to acknowledge my trip cancellation was covered in the policy. I most sincerely thank you for any consideration. P.S. I have a question: If Allianz feels "there is always an event in Israel", why do they offer travel insurance to Israel?
