Sharon's complaint:

Insurance Company: Liberty Mutual
Coverage Type: Auto/Boat/Motorcycle

  • Underwriting - Premium Too High
  • Underwriting - Cancellation

I relocated back to Tampa from Georgia where Liberty Mutual was my insurance provider. In the four years that I lived in Georgia I had a great agent rates were very reasonable. I moved back to Florida, well that was not the case with Liberty. My premium went from $185 montly for 3 vehicles to $525 monthly for 3 vehicles. I called my insurance agent with State Farm that I had for 15 years prior to leaving the state, where they insured 2 vehicles for me for $165 a month. Quite a bit of difference - so I quickly changed to State Farm and informed Liberty that I would be cancelling my poliy. I talked with a gentlemen on the phone explained to him the situation and paid the remaining premuim on the phone with my credit card and was told the balance was paid in full.

Over the last few days, I have been receiving collection calls at my home for a remaining balance with Liberty Mutal - mind you this happened in October - its' December? There is an outstanding balance of $49.00. I contacted Liberty to find out what this was for where they indicated that it was an outstanding balance due - yes Mrs. Ferguson we see that our agent told you the bill was paid in full but it's not. That is not my fault!!! Now you turn me over to collection for something I didn't even knkow that I owed. When I asked them to provide me a bill - I was told they could not. So why should I pay them the $49.00 if they can't provide a bill. It is not the amount of money, but for me it is the principal that your company told me that I was paid and you admit that I was told that the bill was paid in full but now you want me to pay additional $49.00.

I would never use Liberty Mutual again - they rates are ridiculous in the state of Florida. There customer service department was very unhelpful even when I talked to a "manager" - they would not waive the bill and take responsibility for their mistake. I will grudgely pay this bill to save my credit but I will definitely be writing a letter to the CEO of Liberty Mutual.

Thank you,

Sharon Ferguson
